Brooke Beck, MS, RD, LDN
How long have you been a member of MAND?
Why did you join MAND?
I joined MDDA to be more involved with other Memphis Dietitians. The more resources we have available, the better we will be able to benefit the community!
How has membership in MAND been of value to you and your practice?
MDDA has connected me with other dietitians who have years of experience that I can learn from.
Tell us about yourself, your job, and what you find most interesting about your job.
I am from Lawrenceburg, Tennessee and moved to Memphis to get my Masters degree and begin my Dietetic Internship. After the internship was over, the Lord opened the door for me to stay in Memphis. I am now working at the Church Health Center which has been such a blessing; it is a fun thing to give people practical help on ways to enjoy the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. It is such a neat opportunity to teach people to apply the science of nutrition into their daily lives and use even what we eat to serve the Lord (1 Corinthians 10:31)! Using a general nutrition class, a diabetes targeted class, a teaching kitchen, and individual meetings with people, we teach people what to look for in the grocery store, how large (or small) an actual portion is, how to manage diabetes, and are even able to demonstrate how to cook healthy in a nutrition kitchen and plan meals for diabetes.
How did you get into this field?
I love food! In college I took an Introduction to Nutrition Class and found out that you can make a career out of nutrition and I said sign me up!
